Prices for calcined bauxite have moved up on extremely limited availability, while high demand is pushing up the markets for refractory bauxite in both spot and contract deals.

The bauxite market is edging further upward at the start of 2018 as continuing issues of availability take the spot prices of some refractory and abrasive grades to new highs.

While production shutdowns continue in a number of provinces in China - including the bauxite hub of Shanxi and Henan.
